This patient had upper and lower crowding with a anterior open bite. She also had a jaw discrepancy having a lower jaw (mandible) that was underdeveloped and short in size. This type of discrepancy will make the profile, as seen in the first picture, look more convex than normal where the chin appears too far back. With 24 months of braces to get her teeth in the correct and stable position over her bone and a surgical procedure to bring the jaw forward a great result was accomplished. In this case braces alone would have corrected her teeth position but could not have corrected the jaw discrepancy. As seen in the before and after profile pics one can see how the braces a along with surgery really improved the patients look.
